Superior Woodwind and Brass Repairs

We have been repairing woodwind and brass instruments for over 30 years. Our shop, located in Lake Worth, Florida, repairs and refurbishes instruments for customers from across the United States and beyond. Our services include everything from playing condition repairs, instrument cleanings, and damaged instruments to complete mechanical overhauls. The work is done correctly, at a fair price.

Just wanted to attest it was a great pleasure doing business with Scott. This piece came out exactly how I envisioned it (a thin band preserving the Great Neck markings). The repair looks solid and it’s been holding up just fine. It’s very comforting knowing the band is there to protect cracks from further developing, as I push it in and pull it out from the neck cork.

Carlos R. (Los Altos, CA)

It’s amazing! Plays wonderfully! Thank you for your great work!

Bismarck M. (West Palm Beach, FL)

A special thank you to Scott Ankrom, owner of South Florida Horns. Scott did a complete mechanical restoration of my Selmer Paris Radio Improved tenor. I couldn’t be more pleased as my horn now plays magnificently from top to bottom. Dents, dings, rollers, posts, rods, pads, felts, springs…whew I gave him a basket case! I highly recommend South Florida Horns! Scott did a complete mechanical overhaul of my vintage Selmer tenor. I am astounded by his great attention to detail and outstanding craftsmanship. He is such an asset as possesses a wealth of knowledge. Soprano next! Your work is the best I’ve had. (Chafin, Music Center, Sam Ash, and 3 personal techs)

David K. (West Palm Beach, FL)

The horn is fantastic! Thank you so much for reviving this iconic piece of music history for me. The tone is far better than I had dreamed and she looks amazing! Job well done.

Samuel C. (Hattiesburg, MS)

Hi Scott, I received the mpc today. Great job! Thanks a lot. I’ll let you know next time I may need a repair again. 🙂

Carlos R. (Los Altos, CA)

I just wanted to let you know that I am in the midst of playing on the clarinets and (they) are great! Everything feels and sounds so much better. Thank you so much for all of your help. I really appreciate it!

Gabrielle T. (Wellington, FL)

The bari is playing great. The octave key fix seems to be working fine so having them open and close together seems like the right behavior. The lower register is much better now.

Carlos P. (Boca Raton, FL)

In all my years, I never felt as comfortable with anyone working on my original tenor as with you. Thank you for your professionalism. I recognize it.

Ken Z. (New Jersey)

Scott, what a tremendous difference! Horn playing great!!!

Clint M. (Deerfield Beach, FL)

It’s taken me a few nights of playing to realize just how well my horn is playing. Amazing. Thank you very much.

Terry C. (Boynton Beach, FL)

The flute plays great. Thank you again.

Wes A. (Hollywood, FL)

My flute and tenor play great, thanks again.

Wes A. (Hollywood, FL)

It is playing great down to the low C. Thanks again.

Mike B. (Deerfield Beach, FL)

I just want to tell you, you did a hell of a job on my Keilwerth it plays the best since I owned it…everything is just so easy Bb is like a natural drop in bucket thing I played it yesterday and thought wow what a great horn it is thanks so much!!!

Kale G. (Okeechobee, FL)

I received the Dukoff last week…really sounds great on the low register – big grin. Also tames the tendency of the high G to squeak a D. Thanks for your help.

Mark H. (Glendale, AZ)

Plays great!! Thanks again.

Debbie P. (West Palm Beach, FL)

Scott worked his magic on my alto and tenor. They play like new again.

Lee G. (Coral Springs, FL)

I want to thank you again for the work you did on the horn. It feels great. I am very thankful that I was able to find you and rest assured that I will tell as many people as possible about your outstanding work.

Zahiir C. (Hollywood, FL)

Hello; I just wanted to let you know the corks arrived yesterday – PERFECT FIT. Thank you!

Larry M. (Springfield, MA)

Just wanted to let you know, my son is ECSTATIC with his sax! He will be a senior in high school this year and plans on marching in college as well. He said this is the best sax he has had and is so proud of it. We were on a really tight budget to find him an instrument since his father & I both lost our jobs last year, and ya’ll really came through with a great price and a quality instrument. All I can say is THANK YOU!!

Cindi V. (Huntsville, AL)

Thanks for the emergency treatment…alto is playing great.

Wally S. (Boca Raton, FL)

I just wanted to thank you for repairing my daughters alto sax. She told me that it sounded “amazing”!!

Chris G. (Lake Worth, FL)

Just wanted to let you cats know that if you’re ever down here or are already living here Scott Ankrom of “South Florida Horns” is the man for repairs (no I don’t get a discount for this…lol…). His attention to detail, quick turn around and honesty are refreshing. I’ve been to a couple of guys down here before and they were all capable but could never connect as they were too busy rushing the job and/or not very honest in their assessment. This cat will tell you the pro’s and con’s to your suggestions and help you understand the consequences to both. I just went in yesterday and again left completely satisfied.

from Sax on the Web

My clarinet plays so awesome now! Thank you so much!!

Lisa P. (Palm City, FL)

Horn does play real nice, and wow such beautiful work the horn looks great.

Cash F. (Boulder City, NV)

Thanks for fixing the flute. My daughter says it’s really easy to put together and tune now!

Marissa M. (Wellington, FL)

Hi Scott, really nice job on the Dukoff. Plays well. It sounds very full and centered, especially in the low register. Thanks again.

Chris S. (Brookfield, IL)

Just wanted to let you know that my son said the instrument is AMAZING! Thank you so much. You are a life saver!

Laurie C. (Palm Beach Gardens, FL)

Scott – just a note to thank you for excellent work on my bass clarinet. It plays fabulous. Much appreciated.

Fred E. (Royal Palm Beach, FL)

Thank you for standing behind your quality work.

Ron F. (Weston, FL)

I received the mouthpiece on Friday. Excellent job. Thanks for removing the casting bump.

John R. (Okatie, SC)

Wanted to give the soprano enough time for us to get used to each other after you wrestling it into shape and pronouncing it gig ready. Took me some time to learn what mpc, mpc placement, reed brand & strength work best for me. But after 6 weeks I am pleased to let you know my little curved Borgani IS UNBELIEVABLE! It sings in the high registers smack in tune now and can be silky smooth or rough, loud or soft. Same in the lower register, can bark, growl and cry when asked. It now sounds the way I hoped a Curved Jubilee would sound & I couldn’t be happier. When I play it, it just asks for a 10MFan Virtuoso mpc and a Hemke 2.5 placed just in the right spot. Thank you for the expertise, time and effort (and elbow grease!) necessary to get it in such fine shape. You are the best.

Barry N. (Miami, FL)

Thanks again for wonderful work.

Lenni B. (Jupiter, FL)

What a joy to play with no hitches or slop in the mech, crisp and quiet. All registers and leaps between well-behaved and in control.. It feels and sounds really good! Front hi-F touch is especially slick—perfect! I feel very lucky you are just up the road and will work on my horns (despite my “checklists”)—you have the perfect touch.

Warren A. (Miami, FL)

Hi Scott, the tenor is playin’ like a new horn – easy low Bb. Thanks.

Bob V. (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

Hi Scott. Just played the Ridenour. Extremely good fix! I get about a 7 cent correction of those previous flat crappy notes, with the high register in the pocket. Makes this clarinet very playable now. Thank you.

Carl C. (Tamarac, FL)

Got the mouthpiece yesterday, and it looks great…much better fit and feel with the new bite plate in place.

Harry F. (Buffalo, NY)

Scott, just wanted to say the tenor sounded great last night – the best ever. It sounds like a new horn and the action and tuning are great. Thanks a lot!

Jason A. (Lake Worth, FL)

Once again, a job well done! I just spent 2 hours playing my clarinet and it’s playing like a charm!

Mark D. (West Palm Beach, FL)

Hey Scott, just wanted to say I received my father’s flute and piccolo safely. What a phenomenal job you did!

Vesta M. (St. Augustine, FL)

Thanks again for working on the horn. I am VERY pleased. I was seriously considering figuring out how to get a 62 if the fix didn’t work, but I love my horn even more now. I really appreciate your work.

Clint M. (Deerfield Beach, FL)

The horn plays great once again! Thank you!

Allan F. (Sunrise, FL)

I just received it and it plays like a dream! I honestly have more control over my tone color than I ever have. Thank you so much.

Cori B. (Frostproof, FL)

Wanted to tell you how much I’m enjoying the old Keilwerth that you brought back to life! It’s a lot of fun to play.

Barry N. (Hollywood, FL)

..it needs some TLC and you’re the only person I trust…

Marco N. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Scott has done work for me and also my friends, and I highly recommend him to anybody looking to get a fantastic job done on their saxophone. He can do anything and he does everything well. Two thumbs up!

Mark S. (Wellington, FL)

I received the horn last night, played it some then and quite a bit today. It’s playing great! I’m glad we went ahead with the work on this baby. Makes playing the big horn fun again.

Rob F. (Martinez, GA)

Horn feels great!!!! You’re the man, Scott…

Zahiir C. (Hollywood, FL)

Great reface on the Ridenour! Nice easy playing dark sound, and a perfect fit for the Legere.

Carl C. (Tamarac, FL)

Just wanted to let you know that I am in love with my horn again! The sound of my horn is back to brilliant and clear, thanks to the cleaning and valve adjustments. I am grateful for your work and I cannot wait to recommend you to all my horn friends. Thank you again!

Marlena D. (Pompano Beach, FL)

Scott, thanks again. You saved my a**

Ken Z. (New Jersey)

Just played the Martin Freres Cl. The brothers would give you 2 thumbs up! The crescent fixes up the D, and it plays great now, with my slightly off-color Grabner mp. Thanks again!

Carl C. (Tamarac, FL)

Brilliant overhaul done by Scott Ankrom of South Florida Horns. He completely cleaned up/rebuilt my baby and I couldn’t be any happier! Just played a set and couldn’t put the tenor down. Thank you for an exceptional, fast job!!

Ross G. (Davie, FL)

Sax plays great, thanx.

Jason B. (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

The tenor overhaul was fantastic and the instrument is playing better than ever since I bought it in NY back in 1997. Thank you very much for the detailed work.

Raul B. (Miami, FL)

I am thrilled at the improvement in how my clarinet plays! The throat tones are so much more clear and resonant as well as much more in tune. This problem crept up on me over years, and what you did made a dramatic improvement.

Peter K. (Wellington, FL)

Thanks for doing such a great job on my tenor! I almost forgot how great a horn it is!

Scott K. (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

By the way, the Meyer you refaced for me is fantastic. I had two Meyers, a Phil-Tone and the one you refaced. I sold the Phil-Tone Meyer.

Gary P. (Baton Rouge, LA)

The custom key installation looks fantastic!

Rob F. (Martinez, GA)

Just wanted to say THANK YOU! Impeccable work…it plays great.

John P. (Lake Worth, FL)

Outstanding work. Horn plays effortlessly top to bottom. Lower stack really improved. Bravo bravo. I’m exceedingly happy with my horn.

David K. (West Palm Beach, FL)

Hi Scott. Just want to let you know I love the mouthpieces. They play very well. Thanks for the work you did on them!!

Eddie D. (Boca Raton, FL)

Got the clarinet home and out of the case and it is playing great!

Mark D. (West Palm Beach, FL)

I will never send a horn to anybody but you…

Vladimir L. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Great job – thanks!

Steve M. (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

Thank you! The work you did on the saxophone is excellent. My 12 year old daughter (currently plays clarinet) played it when she came home and fell in love with the sound and feel of the instrument. She will be adding the saxophone to her musical training. I will recommend your shop to our musical friends. Thank you again. You have been very helpful, and an excellent job on the horn.

Emery K. (Philadelphia, PA)

Scott, very much appreciate the great work. LH C key works smoothly, no wobble in the barrel, and all joints are snug. It was delightful to work with you.

Ed G. (Wellington, FL)

Thanks again for the great job!

Jay C. (New York, NY, of the Allman Brothers)

Horns are great! Thanks, Scott!

Scott K. (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

Wow! That was fast.

Rod B. (Stuart, FL)

I’m delighted with the repair and the service…I can’t recommend you highly enough.

Terry E. (UK)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Absolutely fantastic. Except for the day it came out of the factory, it never played that well.

Georges H. (Key West, FL)

Great job on my alto – it looks and plays fantastic. Thanks.

Kenny M. (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

Thanks so much for a wonderful fix! The horn plays its a** off with a beautiful sound.

Brian A. (New Jersey)

Plays great! Worth the wait.

A few leaps down that used to give me trouble seem more reliable, bell tones more solid, D above the break has improved timbre, and intonation of say B3 is less sharp. Quick try of overtone seemed easy. Mech feels very crisp and responsive.

Overall sounds killer.

Thanks!

Warren A. (Miami, FL)

Very smooth rounded sound with this new facing! Thanks!

Carl C. (Tamarac, FL)

I tried the tenor last night at a rehearsal and it’s working beautifully, thanks.

Carlos P. (Boca Raton, FL)

My bassoon sounds and “feels” wonderful. There’s a smoothness to the action that I haven’t had in years, and could never have accomplished myself. And notes that were a little challenging to properly sound are coming out much more evenly.

Kevin T. (Lake Placid, FL)

I’m glad I picked your company to do the repair on my sax. You are prompt and communicate clearly. I’ll be sure to recommend you if anyone asks me for a good repair shop.

Dan P. (Beverly Hills, FL)

Happy to refer friends to you…your work is excellent!

Barry N. (Hollywood, FL)

I got my R-13 adjusted by @sfloridahorns and it plays beautifully once again. Scott Ankrom is GREAT.

Thank you for the repair. The oboe is working great!

Erin G. (Weston, FL)

I’ve been playing the horn and you did a great job on it. Thanks for getting it to me so quickly…. I really appreciate it.

Terry A. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

As expected, your answer is above and beyond! Thanks so much! Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge.

Allan F. (Boca Raton, FL)

Just gotta say, he has done a really top-notch job on a pair of challenging repairs/alts which my usual go-to guys couldn’t quite pull off. First was adding a Front F key to an Italian curvy soprano (he did it by altering a clarinet key) and NOT make it look like an after-factory alt, and the second was doing a really, really NICE repair on a twisted and dented up upper Baritone crook which most techs would have given up to the ghost. These were not run-of-the mill things. It takes someone with real craft and skill to have successfully pulled these off. I just think he deserved some Kudos here.

George J. (Portland, OR)

Scott, I received the flute last night and it is playing great! Thank you so much for the entire transaction.

Logan H. (Miami, FL)

It’s like a completely different sax!! Thank you for doing such an awesome job!

Mike A. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

Hi Scott. Real happy with the work you did on my old Couesnon alto. Low notes are very easy to play now, and the whole horn is much improved. Thanks!

Carl C. (Tamarac, FL)
